Day of Grace

In the build up to the release date of 500 Year Journey: How the Magi Knew When Christ Would be Born, in my previous posts I dropped clues as to how they knew and about when scripture tells us Christ was born.

But since the book is to be released this coming Tuesday, September 12, my full case is going to be available for all to peruse and evaluate for themselves.  I have been working on this topic for over fifteen years and I am excited, and yet terrified, for it to be finally made public. I hope that if you have any questions or concerns that you will contact me (not attack me) at contact@coreypiper.com. I am a teacher by trade, and so I am more than willing to explain my beliefs and defend my conclusions. Please reach out and let’s have a conversation.

To give you an idea of how this works, a good friend of mine who bought the book early and immediately read it, had some questions. Here’s the essence of the conversation (I inserted my answers)

Bro,

Your book is so conversational, I feel like we’re just sitting in that Coffee house  in Golden, CO (where we first met), sharing God’s touch on our lives.

Your 70-weeks interpretation is of course challenging what I’ve understood from other studies and authors, but I’m hanging in there to the end (now on pg 92).
Some Q’s have arisen for me.

ME: “Thank you! One of the challenging things about writing this book was not to use Academia speak, and yet not try to reduce it down to a comfortable devotional style. I like how you described it and I appreciate that! Regarding the 70 weeks, it is one of the areas I deeply wrestled with for years and so please get to the end and see how it all plays out.

Pg. 50, 3rd parag. 3 on Artaxerxes and Esther.  My memory and quick review of the Book of Esther, speaks of King Xerxes not the son Artaxerxes.  Could you help me understand?

ME: “This particular section requires a book of its own!  My conclusions are somewhat different than some of the academic conclusions circulating today, but I do have reasons for them. But not even scholars agree with each other on their conclusions and my arguments aren’t completed until chapter 11, so hang in there!

That is just a sample of a couple of his questions, and I am thankful that instead of telling me how wrong I was because he had heard something different, that he approached me with “Can you help me understand?”  Because of questions like his, I am working on a Useful Resources & Interesting Topics page for my website that will be available for anyone to peruse. It will be available soon.

Therefore, in this last post before the release date, I would like to thank those of you who have pre-ordered the book. I hope that you will be blessed on the journey you are about to embark on, and that you will find great joy at the end of the trail. This is not just an academic work, but one that I hope will encourage you in your faith and in your walk with God.

Day of Grace

The day Jesus was born is the ultimate Day of Grace. Don’t miss the miracle! As Mary sang while still pregnant with Jesus:

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. . . .
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever. (Luke 1:46–55)
